This website is the home of several Chinese University of Hong Kong research projects (funded by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council) that look into different modes of writing of Tibeto-Burman speaking minorities in China.
Inside you will find lists of Tibeto-Burman minority authors and their works, and comprehensive glossaries of minority language words that can be found within the Chinese language writing of these authors. This research was supported by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council ECS research fund, project no. 24610519, “Between Sino and Tibetan: the translational Sinophone literature of Tibeto-Burman minorities”.
There is also a glossary of Tibetan and Naxi terms related to indigenous Tibetan and Naxi dongba religion, with English translations. This research is supported by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council GRF research fund, project no. 14614223, “Naxi dongba and Dunhuang Tibetan manuscripts: a comparative study”.
Goals 目標
The project aims to show how Sinophone minority authors use Chinese to reflect their own identity, or subtly employ translational strategies to highlight their culture, challenging a homogenized notion of “Chineseness” in their writing.
